Chinese Copper Glazes Explained: Designed for ceramic students or graduates, this two day workshop has participants prepare and discuss numerous copper glazes from the K'ang-hsi period in China.

It is a hands-on workshop and will provide substantial knowledge for those interested in these glazes. On the first day participants will prepare numerous test rings of copper glazes from the Kang-hsi period. This was the zenith for these glazes. Several clays will be used. The test rings will then be fired. Partipants return a week later to discuss the results in detail. Around 100 glazes will result from this workshop. The knowledge gained will enable partipants to understand how to formulate these glazes and how to ensure results and firings can be reproduced. It will be empirical not scientific.

The Long Studio Visit : Artists need to do more to help the public appreciate the many steps in their craft practice.

An open studio for a week will enable people to observe the many stages of my process. I will work as normal in the week so people could see me preparing clay, throwing on the wheel, turning pots, glazing, fine finishing pots prior to bisque or firing. I am happy for people to stay as long as they wish and to ask questions. Work made by hand is not instant and it is done with care, patience and love. Homemade Anzacs and tea and coffee will be supplied.
